Once you see a crocodile logo on a garment, what does it come to your mind? LACOSTE
A well-known logo all over the world and even more when you see a polo shirt, which is the favorite garment for the brand.
As we already said, it is one of the best brands in the world but what you probably do not know is the curious story about the crocodile Lacoste logo.
All started with René Lacoste, fond of all kind of sports.
He started getting famous in tennis because he won something important in French sport: winning the Davis Cup to the United States for the very first time. This is what happened in 1927 with a team that will always be known under the “musketeer” name. That year he won the Open to Forest Hill at the United States. René was already a legend for sport games and particularly for tennis.
It was on that great 1927 when the relation between the crocodile and the sportsman started. René Lacoste bet to the French Davis Cup team leader a crocodile leather bag if he wins the tennis tournament.
From then on, the legendary tennis player used the crocodile picture for all the garments he created going to the point of becoming partner of André Gillier, owner of the most important textile company of the time to found a company for selling shirts and Polo T-shirts with the logo, such as sporty garments for golf, tennis and sea sports. They were pioneers because nobody else put an obvious logo brand on clothing before. The Lacoste story and legend started.
